How to care for your Ceramic Coating

Ceramic Coating Maintenance 101

How long does ceramic coating last with proper care?

With regular maintenance, your ceramic coating can last anywhere from 2 to 10 years—sometimes even longer. (Yes it actually varies that much)

Longevity depends on the coating you got (our 3 Year, 5 Year, or 10 Year Coating), how well it’s washed, protected from harsh elements, and whether booster sprays or top coats are used.

How often should I wash my car after coating?

Ideally, wash your vehicle every 1–2 weeks. This prevents buildup of contaminants like pollen, dust, bird droppings, and road salt, which can reduce the hydrophobic effect over time.

Always use a pH-neutral car shampoo and wash by hand with a soft wash mitt. Avoid drive-through or brush car washes—they’ll wear down the coating and may cause micro-scratches.

Do I still need to wax my car after coating?

Nope—wax is completely unnecessary. Ceramic coatings replace the need for wax. Adding wax on top can actually dull the coating’s performance. Instead, use a ceramic-safe topper or booster spray if you want to refresh gloss and slickness.

Can I go through an automatic car wash?

You can, but it’s not recommended. Most automatic washes use harsh chemicals and spinning brushes that can degrade the coating and cause swirl marks. If you insist on taking your car to a car wash, find a "Touchless" car wash nearby. Stick to hand washing for best results.

Is a ceramic coating completely scratch-proof?

No coating is truly scratch-proof, but ceramic coatings are scratch-resistant. They’ll protect against light swirls and minor abrasions, but you still need to be careful during washing and drying.

What if my car gets bird poop or tree sap on it?

Clean it off immediately. The coating gives you more time before damage occurs, but acidic contaminants like bird droppings or sap can still etch through if left too long.

Should I clay bar a ceramic coated car?

Only if absolutely necessary. If you notice contamination that washing can’t remove (like bonded tar or iron), use a ceramic-safe decontamination spray instead of a clay bar to avoid stripping or damaging the coating.

Do I need to reapply the coating every year?

No, but annual inspections or maintenance services (like applying a ceramic topper) are smart.

We offer maintenance packages that keep your coating performing at its best without full reapplication.

The No Limit Car Wrap Process

At No Limit Detailing, we don’t just apply ceramic coating—we perform a full paint refinement process to ensure your vehicle gets the deepest gloss and most durable protection possible.

Every ceramic job starts with a meticulous wash and decontamination to strip away all surface grime, followed by an iron remover and clay bar treatment to eliminate embedded contaminants.

From there, we move into machine polishing to remove swirls, haze, and imperfections—tailored to your vehicle’s condition, whether it’s a quick enhancement or multi-stage correction.

Once the paint is up to par, we apply a premium-grade ceramic coating in a temperature-controlled environment for maximum bond strength. This creates a long-lasting, ultra-slick shield that protects against UV rays, road grime, and chemical staining while delivering next-level gloss and insane hydrophobic performance.

We don’t cut corners—this is pro-level protection that makes your vehicle look better than showroom new.

How Long Does It Take To Ceramic Coat my Car?

Ceramic coating isn’t a quick job—it’s a process that demands precision and patience to get it right.

At No Limit Detailing, a typical ceramic coating installation takes about 5 to 6 hours from start to finish. That includes a full paint decontamination, machine polishing to remove swirls or haze, and carefully applying the coating panel by panel.

Once the application is complete, your vehicle then needs to cure for 10 hours to allow the coating to bond properly to the surface. During this time, it’s important that the car remains indoors and undisturbed for the best results. We’ll keep it secure in our shop to ensure no moisture or debris interferes with the curing.

When you pick your car up, the coating will already be locked in, delivering that deep gloss and hydrophobic effect right away—with full protection setting in over the next 5–7 days.
